Dookie Primary School No 1527
The first school in the area opened at Cashel as 1527 Dookie South with John Kilpatrick as Head
Teacher. The building was moved 1 mile South of Dookie on 23rd of October 1893 and the name
changed to Dookie in 1894. The present school opened on land donated by Bennett in 1907 with
Evelyn Helyer as HT. The old school became the teacher’s residence in 1910. A second room was
built in 1927 and the building partly destroyed by fire in 1962. A school bus from Northern districts
has operated since 1949. G. Rouvray, Correspondent of Committee, proved one of the notable
workers for the school.
