Murchison South No 2669
It began as a part-time school in William Drew’s cottage, about half-way between Murchison
and Noorilim South, in March 1885. In 1889, Jane Law moved to the school from the
Western District - 300 miles by rail and then 6 miles by cart. A remote allowance of £12 a year
sought by her was refused. Commencement of work on the Goulburn Weir after 1887 had
brought increased population and enrolment, but the major works were completed by 1891,
making the full-time status of the school short-lived. SS2669 eventually closed on
31st of December 1908.
