Nalinga No 3333

On 10th of February 1892, George Williams and others petitioned for a school at Nalinga.
In August 1892, District Inspector Robertson reported insufficient children to warrant a school
being established. Following a later report by District Inspector Gates a school eventually
opened at Nalinga on 20th of June 1899, in a leased building (an old hotel). James Sheridan
was Head Teacher. In 1901 District Inspector Gates recommended that a Departmental building
be erected on the 5 acre site gazetted on 22nd of March 1878 at the North-East corner of Block 17a.
Here a 22ftx15ft wooden building, previously estimated to cost £200, was erected and opened in
January 1903. From 20th of September 1909, Nalinga worked half-time with Upotipotpon South.
Ada Williams was Correspondent of the first Committee. Nalinga became part-time with
SS2873 Gowangardie on 15th of March 1915 and closed on 19th of August of the same year,
the building being removed. Requests for reopening came from B.A.B. Letcher in 1929 and
T.W. Belt in 1933. A site of 1 acre from Allotment 6a, Parish of Gowangardie, was purchased
from Charles Thomas and Thomas W. Belt for£15. The residents, at their own expense,
removed the building from SS2301 Youarang North and the school opened in its new position
on 29th of January 1934 with a Net Enrolment of 16. Additional accommodation in the form
of one classroom was erected in 1941. Nalinga closed on 16th of October 1967.
