St George's Rd Primary School No 4666
(formerly Shepparton South)
Originally known as Shepparton South, the school opened on 3rd of February 1953 under Head
Teacher T.G. Cook with a staff of 12 and 436 pupils. The original building was an aluminium
prefabricated building of ten classrooms set on a bare 10-acre site; the building remained unpainted
until 1960. The Edwards Oval was sown in 1956 and the Barry Pavilion erected in 1959. Six
classrooms have been added since the school was officially opened by the Minister of Education, the
Hon. A.E. Shepherd.
