Toolamba South No 2728
While Toolamba had been settled early by selectors, and a township laid out in 1874 educational
needs were met by SS1674 Toolamba West and SS1441 Tatura until SS2728 opened on 2nd of
November 1885, 4 miles South-East of Tatura on a 1-acre block donated by James Crawford.
The old Tatura School, of wood with shingle roof, was shifted from its site 14 miles South of
Tatura to be the building for the new school. In 1910, the school and residence were burnt down,
and pupils had to travel elsewhere until in 1921, on the application of Toolamba South residents,
a single classroom was brought from the recently completed Waranga Reservoir, and remains,
with its wood renovated and roofing repaired, the present school. Frederick Parsons was the
original Head Teacher in 1885. Miss Cumming opened the replacement school in 1921.
A Committee was formed in 1923, under Chairman Strong with A. Crawford as Correspondent.
